40-year-old stepdad screams at 16-year-old stepson at his birthday party for telling him he's not his dad: 'I shouldn't have to put up with this from such an ungrateful brat'

When you're a kid, you're at the mercy of the adults around you. While many kids have two healthy, rational parents at the helm of their families, a lot of kids have to operate under a series of absurd rules that do nothing to prepare them for the future. A parent could hypothetically feed their kids nothing but Fruit Roll Ups and vitamins, demand that they walk 10 miles to school when they have two cars in the garage, and make them call them "My Leige" without anyone stopping them. There's a fine line between bad parenting and something far more nefarious, and it can be hard to tell the difference when you're in the situation. 

Kids, by their very nature, should not be expected to be as mature and rational as the adults in their lives. If a kid hurls insults at their parents, it doesn't mean that their parents should hurl insults back at them. Parents should discipline their kids for bad behavior, not stoop to their level. Anyone who disagrees is not mature enough to be a parent.
